Hello and welcome to The South East Echo

This website is predominantly about Southend-on-Sea, Essex, and is a work in progress towards offering a fairly comprehensive history of the town from its birth to now. There is also news of forthcoming events in and around the town. This site also has a strong focus on the RAF and Home Defences during the years 1939 and 1945. There are details of the squadrons and dossiers on some of the pilots based at RAF Rochford during the conflict.

SITE NEWS: We are in the process of replacing the pages that make up the Roll of Honour of The Few with a Roll of Honour for every pilot who served with Fighter Command during 1939-1945. These new pages are accessible from an A-Z menu through the 'Fighter Pilots' button on the navigation bar. Pilots 'A'-'L' have been uploaded, and 'M'-'Z' will follow in a week or two.

APPEAL
Can you help with any information about Southend airport and the surrounding area during the Second World War. We are looking for memories and stories to include in a new book RAF Rochford, which we are currently working on and aiming to have published.

Thank you for visiting The South East Echo. We hope you enjoyed your stay, and would appreciate it if you would leave your comments in our Guestbook.
