The compilation of such a work as this is not possible without the help of a considerable number of people and resources, and although this site is not designed as the History of Southend (that would be a far, far greater work), it is hoped that it will become a good resource for anyone studying Southend History.

I would like to thank the staff of the Southend Museum, the Central Library, and the Essex Records Office in Southend for their assistance in enabling me to gather the relevant information, and I would like to thank all those who have generously provided photographs and letters, and for their time spent with me recalling their memories that have made much of what you can read on this website so much more of a real account of the town's history.
