W/Cmdr W. K. Wells was born on 14th January, 1914.
As a Flying Officer on 29th April, 1940, he was posted to Station Headquarters in Richmond.
William received promotion to Flight Lieutenant on 1st January, 1941, and joined 453 Squadron on 21st March.

William went to RAF HQ on 23rd April, 1942, as Squadron Leader.
He was posted to 22 Base Wing on 7th December, 1942.

William went overseas, first to HQ (North Western Area) on 6th March, 1943, and then to HQ (Middle East) on 13th January, 1945, where he was promoted to Wing Commander.
