Sgt A. W. P. Spears was forced to bale out of his Spitfire I (P9323) at 18.30 hrs on 30th August, 1940. He was  in combat with a Bf 109 over Sheppy. 

Later in the war, he joined 91 Squadron and was wounded on 4th April, 1941, in combat with a Bf 109 of JG 26.
