Pte Woolf
was born in Canewdon.
He worked for Mr. Frank Course at the Butchers in North Road.
He enlisted in Southend-on-Sea into the Royal Army Service Corps (281769), and later was in the 1st Battalion of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers.
He was killed in action in France on 18th August 1917. He was aged 36.

His officer wrote that he was "Always willing to do more of his share of work".
One of his brothers, Pearl Woolf was a stoker on H.M.S. "Conquest", and another brother was engaged in munition work.
