S/L Scott joined 605 Squadron, AuxAF in 1935.
He was commisioned on 1st August, and on 25th April 1937 was promoted to Flying Officer.
On 24th August 1939 he was called to full-time service as a Flight Lieutenant (25th April 1939).
Douglas remained with the squadron as a Flight Commander until 29th August 1940, when he was posted away to form and command 306 Squadron at Church Fenton, and staying with it until December. (He was promoted to Squadron Leader on 1st September).
In October 1941, he was appointed Wing Leader at Kirton-in-Lindsey.
On 8th November he was leading 616 Squadron on a patrol of the Dunkirk area when he was shot down in Spitfire P8701 by a FW 190 and killed. He was 33 years old.
Douglas Scott is buried in Dunkirk Town Cemetery.
He was awarded the AFC on 15th January 1943, with effect from 9th October 1941.
