P/O Davies was already a member of 610 Squadron when war broke out, and was called to full-time service on the 24th August 1939.
He was commissioned on 17th March 1940.
On the 3rd September 1940 he re-joined 610 Squadron, then at Acklington, after completion of his training, and on the 28th was posted to Hornchurch to join 222 Squadron.
Around midday on the 30th October Alfred was killed when a wing of his Spitfire (N3119) was shot off during combat with a BF 109 over Sussex. He crashed at Upper Wilting Farm, Crowhurst. He was 23 years old.
Alfred Davies is buried in St. Mary Magdalene churchyard extension, Tamworth, Warwickshire.
