Sgt J. Davis was born on 9th May 1916.
Jack joined 54 Squadron at Hornchurch on 9th August 1940.
On 31st August, Jack was one of three pilots attempting to take off during a bombing raid. His Spitfire (possibly No N3110) was thrown over the boundary fence by a bomb blast just as it took off, and it crashed into the River Ingrebourne. His wrecked aircraft was seen but he had gone. He turned up some time later carrying his parachute. He had been thrown clear but, being unable to find a gap in the boundary fence, he had walked halfway around the aerodrome to get back in. The other two pilots caught during the bombing were E. F. Edsall and A. C. Deere.
Jack was commissioned in 1942 from Warrant Officer.
He was awarded the AFC on 3rd April 1945. Jack retired from the RAF on 6th June 1959, as a Squadron Leader.
