Sgt. L. Switon was Polish and was born on 10th October 1915.

Leon joined 54 (Spitfire) Squadron at Hornchurch on 9th August 1940, but was only with them a week before being posted to 303 Squadron at Northolt flying Hurricanes on 16th.

On 2nd August 1941, Leon was posted away and later served in Canada at No 1 GRS.

Leon returned to Britain in December 1944 where he went to 61 OTU for advanced flying training.

Leon was next with 16 FTS at Newton as a Staff Pilot and later became an intructor there.
He was released from the RAF in 1946 as a Warrant Officer.
