Sgt. Lockwood was born in Purley, Surrey.
On 22nd August 1940 he was posted to Hornchurch to join 54 Squadron.
On 3rd March 1941, Joseph was with 'B' Flight when he failed to return in Spitfire P7300 after combat with Me109s. He was killed when his aircraft crashed between Lympne and Hythe in Kent. He was aged 22.
Joseph Lockwood is buried in Bandon Hill Cemtery, Beddington, Surrey.
