P/O Howes was from Wadebridge, Cornwall.
He was commissioned in the RAF in October 1939.
Peter completed his training and was posted to No. 1 School of Army Co-operation at Old Sarum.
In early June 1940 he went to 5 OTU at Aston Down.

Peter joined 54 Squadron on 8th July, 1940.
On 11th  September, 1940, he was posted to 603 Squadron.
On 18th September, Peter was shot down and killed in his Spitfire (X4323) by a Bf 109 over Ashford, Kent. He was aged 21.
