S/Ldr P. Ozyra
On 3rd July 1941, Piotr reported
back by air from Ouston in Battle
to 317 Squadron.
He was promoted to Flight lieutenant while with the squadron.
On 30th December, Piotr shot down a Me109 while on patrol
at 13,500ft. ten miles from the French Coast North of Brest.
On 20th March 1942, Piotr was given command of the squadron.
On 1st April, (Squadron Leader) Ozyra led the squadron from Exeter to Northolt.
On 8th April, Piotr led the squadron
in a Rodeo (Fighter only) operation. Unfortunately,
he had to return because of R.T. trouble, and
F/Lt. Duryasz carried on in his absence.
On 29th April, 317 Squadron, led by Piotr, escorted six Bostons
for an attack on Dunkirk as part of a diversion wing. Seven FW190s attacked the squadron and Piotr was lost. Nobody was able to say what happened to S/Ldr. Ozyra or his aircraft but as he failed to return to base he was listed as missing. The Squadron landed back at Northolt between 16.40 hrs and 17.15 hrs.
