Ken Crowe, Curator of Southend Museum
Ken taught history in the Southend comprehensive school before joining the staff of Southend Museums Service. Having studied for a Diploma in Archaeology and an MA in Local and Regional History, his main interests are in the archaeology and local history of the Southend area, and he curates those collections at Southend Museum.
He has undertaken extensive research on local history and has written several books for his Museum. He has also had two books published by Sutton Publishing in the 'Britain in Old Photographs' series.
In 2008 Ken was instrumental in the retrieval and cataloguing of fixtures and furnishings from the extensive underground Air Raid Shelters at the 1930s-built site of the old EKCO company in Priory Crescent before it was demolished.
He has a special interest in the history of the day tripper from London in the late Victorian period.
His hobbies include gardening and holidaying in France.
