Terence joined the RAF on 25th July, 1938, on a short service commission and began a course at 3 E&RFTS, moving on to 5 FTS in late September.
During his flying training he was injured in an Audax crash and was admitted to hospital, and once discharged completed his advanced training at 10 FTS. With the course completed, he was posted to CFS, Upavon, for an instructor's course, after which he joined the staff at 14 FTS, Kinloss and later Cranfield.

The next day he failed to return from a routine section patrol. His Spitfire was damaged in combat off the French coast and he baled out at 6,000 feet and was picked up from the sea and captured by the Germans. His aircraft (Spitfire R6896) crashed into the Channel. Before being shot down, he destroyed a Bf 109. He was detained in several prisoner of war camps, including Stalag Luft III.
Terence was freed in May 1945 and stayed in the RAF until 1950,
when he went on to the RAFO. He rejoined the RAF in April 1954, serving in the Fighter Control Branch, and retired
on 29th May, 1974, as a Wing Commander.
