Pilot Officer C. W. Goldsmith was a South African flew with No 54 Squadron and No 603 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. He died of his wounds on the 28th of October 1940. His Spitfire II (P7439) had been shot down by a Bf 109 of JG 51 on the 27th of October 1940 South of Maidstone, Kent at 14:05hrs.
