Stanislaw joined
74 Squadron in August 1940.
At 07.05 hrs on 13th August, 1940, he was forced to baled out of his Spitfire I (N3091) over the Thames Estuary. He landed safely. His aircraft had been hit by return fire from a Do 17.
On 26th February 1941, Stanislaw was posted as Acting Squadron Leader to 317 Squadron (then stationed at Acklington) along with his countryman Henryk Szczesny.
On
10th July, Stanislaw shot down a Me109 over the Le Havre area.
On morning of 8th November, 302 Squadron, and twelve aircraft made up from 316 and 317 squadrons led by (Wing Commander) Brzezina took off to act as escort cover on Circus 110 on an offensive Sweep over Lille.
Rendezvous was made with bombers over Manston at 11.30 and French coast crossed five miles east of Dunkirk. 317 Squadron at 17,000 feet 302 Squadron at 18,000 ft and 316 Squadron to 20,000 feet. In the melee, Stanislaw was attacked by three Me109s but turned in towards them and escaped damage.
The squadron refuelled at Manston and then returned to Redhill.

On 1st May 1942, Stanislaw became Squadron Commander when S/Ldr Szczesny was posted to H.Q. Fighter Command.
