F/Lt. A. W. A. Bayne was shot down on the 25th of August 1940 in combat with a Bf 110 and Bf 109's whilst serving with 17 Squadron. He baled out of his Hurricane I (V7407) safely off Portland at 17:50hrs.
He also flew with No 54 Squadron later in the Battle of Britain.
